According to the heritage foundation ‘the research thus far does not show a clear effect on record sales from file sharing.’

A Harvard Professor conducted research into file sharing and found that it had virtually no impact on album sales and seemed to increase some sales.

It is argued that file sharing increases album sales which is known as the sampling effect. This is because people will get a copy from a friend or from the internet and if they like it will want to buy their own.
