More research

Illegal Downloads
January 18, 2010According to the heritage foundation ‘the research thus far does not show a clear effect on record sales from file sharing.’
A Harvard Professor conducted research into file sharing and found that it had virtually no impact on album sales and seemed to increase some sales.
It is argued that file sharing increases album sales which is known as the sampling effect. This is because people will get a copy from a friend or from the internet and if they like it will want to buy their own.

Horror Films
December 13, 2009I have never seen a proper horror film and I have no desire too. I am not a fan, and have no interest in them. People say if you haven’t watched one how can you say you don’t like them but I just don’t want to watch one. I don’t like gory stuff and that’s a big reason I stay away from horror films because they all seem to have gore in them. To me a proper horror film is an 18 rated film because of the content within them. Films that are rated 15 I don’t see as horror films even if they are meant to be one, but I will still stay away as I have no interest. I don’t understand the Horror genre but it seems the more bloody and disgusting it is the better it becomes. The idea of watching someone get tortured or ripped to pieces by a werewolf has no appeal to me. I would much prefer to watch a Disney Film about a robot or a rat who wants to be a chef, I don’t care if I get called a wimp.
Adaptations
December 7, 2009I thought today’s blog was suppose to be about trailers but i got it wrong, its suppose to be about adaptations. Not the adaptation of trees, animals or plants to their natural surroundings but the adaptation of a book or game into a film.
My favorite adaptation is The Lord Of The Ring’s Trilogy mainly because its the only book i can recall reading that has been made into a film. I read one page of the Harry Potter book and gave, Harry Potter doesn’t appeal to me. An adaption that i would like to see is The Hobbit another one of J.R Tolkien’s pieces . This was the first proper book I ever read and i would love to see as a film.

Trade Description act 1968
December 6, 2009“Any descriptions of goods and services, given by a person acting in the course of a trade or business, should be accurate and not misleading.
It should be noted that to commit an offence, the description must be false to a material degree, e.g. has a significant impact on a purchaser’s ability to enjoy and/or use the goods/services, or a significant effect on their value.“
So many times I have been caught out by a trailer that shows a movie to be one thing and then when you see it, it’s another. I think that these types of trailers should be reporting under the trades description act as I am paying for a product that turns out to be something different to what was described to me.
Some films have trailers that complement a movie, ones that help you to know what the movie is, but without giving too much away. Others however are just rubbish and can give too much information or hardly anything. A trailer that gives you too much can make you say ” Do I really need to go and see the movie now” where as one that gives you nothing can make you say ” there was nothing to make me want to see it” and if either of these have happen then the trailers has failed. There are trailers that like to con you and treat you like mug, they show something that appeals’ to you, but when you watch the film, the bit you like isn’t even in it.
All trailers should give a sensible amount of information in a trailor and maybe strict guidlines should followed. That way people like me won’t feel hard done by the next time we go to the Cinema.
